SEND
Dear Parents and Carers,
On this page you can find our SEND information report and SEND policy.
The aim of the SEND information report is to explain how we implement our SEND policy. In other words, we want to show you how SEND support works at New Horizons.

Autism in School Project News:
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to share an exciting update about our school's pathway to enhance our support for pupils with autism.
We are delighted to share that New Horizons School is participating in the "Autism in Schools" project, a collaborative initiative with CLASS aimed at improving our practice in supporting pupils on the autism spectrum. We are the only special school in East Sussex involved in this project, we are eager to learn and implement the latest evidence-based strategies to ensure our autistic pupils can thrive at New Horizons.
The "Autism in Schools" project has three main components:
- Developing a Termly Parent Forum: We will be hosting regular forums to work with parents and carers, on important topics related to autism, anxiety and sleep. This will provide a platform for open dialogue, sharing of experiences, and collaborative problem-solving to better meet the needs of all pupils.
- Staff Training and Resources: Our whole staff team is receiving extensive training and access to the best of resources to deepen our understanding of autism and implement evidence-based teaching strategies. This will empower our staff to deliver even more effective, provision for all pupils.
- Gathering Pupil Feedback: We believe it is vital to include all our pupils' voices when planning and implementing support. Through this project, we will be actively seeking feedback from our pupils to ensure their perspectives are incorporated into our decision-making processes.
We are excited to begin this year-long project and are committed to working closely with all stakeholders, including the Communication, Learning, and Autism Support Team (CLASS) and the East Sussex County Council Parent Carer Forum, to ensure its success.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me. We value your partnership and look forward to working together to create outstanding, supportive, and inclusive environments for all pupils at New Horizons School.
Best regards,
Sophie Shannon
